Chapter 15Spanish ColonialHistorians claim that colonial architecture develops in the manner of the home country, because of homesickness and a sense of national pride. Colonists want reassuring, their accustomed environment. My contention is that that is all they know - they rarely if ever develop a new Architectural concept – as much as their skill and means (materials and tools) will allow, they echo their motherland. They build as they remember. |
