Classic Greek and Gothic Revival, Victorian and American Architecture in the United States

Sympathy for the Greek revolution in the early 19th century, then for whatever reason rather grotesque Gothic Revival reared its ugly head – and continued into Chicago in 1922 – read about this later. The "Brown" decades brought about Gothic Revival, which Lewis Mumford, famous Historian, wrote of their being the autumn period of American civilization, which followed the brief Renaissance summer prior to the American Civil War. The term is open to interpretation, based on the weird designs. The 19th Century brought the first truly "American" designs, followed by a young Frank Lloyd Wright.
